Romain de Marchi - Big in Japan
During the second edition of the Nissan XTrail the reputation of the event had spanned around the world within the snowboard community. Everybody wanted to get invited as this was the only way to get in. On top of everything each rider would receive a $6000 appearance fee which was unheard of in snowboarding, hence the $50’000 price money for first place along with a brand new Nissan. Romain did not win but sure enough enjoyed the crowd during the afterparty Sunday evening. If you have seen my book Barely made it, you know the scene in Romain’s room the next morning.
